Megadyne’s belt products are designed to withstand the general wear and tear of various machining and manufacturing processes. Whether customers use CNC machines, automatic or manual drill presses, mills, or lathes, our belts ensure efficient, safe operation, without the need for frequent belt maintenance. We offer a range of different belts for both positioning and power drive needs, as well as manual machining applications.

Belts for Machine Tools

Synchronous tooth belts are ideal for machining projects that require high precision, as these belts keep an exact position throughout long periods of time. Friction drive V-belts, on the other hand, are designed for power transmission, thus can slips;  making them ill-suited for applications requiring high positional accuracy.

Megadyne offers a complete line of rubber synchronous transmission belts, in our Isoran Platinum, Gold and Silver series. On mill and drill presses, Platinum  synchronous belts deliver high performance, power, and torque. The strength of the Platinum line enables a narrower belt than Silver and Gold while still maintaining the same amount of horsepower. For instance, a 50-mm-wide Silver belt offers the same horsepower as a 40-mm-wide Gold belt and only a 25-mm-wide Platinum belt. Higher belt horsepower and torque reduces the risk of belt failure thus limiting costs and decreasing potential downtime.

For positioning applications, belts may be made from urethane or rubber. Urethane, in particular, is a cleaner running product and offers excellent chemical resistance. Urethane synchronous belts are available in molded thermoset urethane; Megapower, Open End TPU, Megalinear and Truly Endless TPU, Megaflex.

Belt Specifications

The team at Megadyne often fields questions regarding drive noise,  operating temperature ranges, and flex fatigue. OSHA sets forth specific guidelines for noise, and has established decibel level limits at which ear protection must be worn; these regulations can help guide users toward the best type of belt for their application. In general, narrower belts allow for quieter tooling operations. Our Silver, Gold, and Platinum belts allow for much lower noise levels than other curvilinear profiles and are also operable in high-temperature environments.

Flex fatigue — essentially how much you can bend a belt before it breaks — is another major concern for many machine operators, and this goes hand-in-hand with temperature ratings. Depending on how fast you need a belt to run, just the natural motion of the belt going around pulleys will generate internal heat. The faster a belt is running, the more quickly flex fatigue will set in. Likewise, faster-running belts will produce higher heat. Megadyne’s belts are specifically built for high temperatures.
