The Megadyne Group is proud to announce that we’ll be launching six new products at this year’s Hannover Messe exhibition. From April 24-28, our team will join thousands of exhibitors on the Hannover Fairground in Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany to showcase the latest breakthroughs in advanced belting technology.

Hannover Messe LogoFocusing on a wide range of topics including R&D, industrial automation, IT, industrial supply, digital factory, compressed air and vacuum, production engineering and services, energy, and environmental technology, Hannover Messe is the industrial sector’s leading trade show and a top destination for showcasing multi-disciplinary technologies.

Throughout the week, Megadyne representatives will be manning Stand B30 in Hall 25, to introduce and demonstrate the following products:

Megapower 2

The next generation of our classic molded urethane belt taken to the next level, Megapower 2 offers high-performance flexibility and superior wear, traction, and abrasion resistance. Our new molding process and a thermoset urethane body (88 ShA) allows for a 30% enhancement in dynamic performance, transmittable power, and dimensional stability.

Applications include:

  • Robotics
  • Power transmission
  • Packaging machinery
  • Swimming pool cleaners
  • Domestic appliances
  • Floor scrubbers
  • Wire pulling

Megalinear GW

Megalinear GWOffering 30% more strength than traditional lift and linear positioning belts, Megalinear GW is made of high-tensile steel-zinc-coated cords for high tooth shear strength and resistance. It features a low coefficient of friction and reduced noise and vibration levels, guaranteeing transmittable power under continuous high loads.

Applications include:

  • Cartesian Gantry Cranes
  • Automatic storage and retrieval systems (ASRS)
  • Lifting and handling applications
  • Lift platforms
  • Vertical transport of vehicles

Megalinear FC and Megapower FC (Food Contact)

These two new products are made with food contact-approved materials according to European regulations 1935/2004, 10/2011, and 174/2015. They offer strong resistance to corrosion, excellent hydrolysis resistance as well as balanced tracking, low running tension, and low vibration for both dry and wet food processing applications.

Applications include:

  • Bakery filling and cutting lines
  • Frozen foods
  • Sausage making
  • Bun slicing
  • Cheese slicing and packaging
  • Fish descaling and processing
  • Meat and poultry slicing
  • Hygienic applications

Silver 2

The second generation of one of our most popular belts, the Silver 2 is made of an innovative rubber compound reinforced by a special fiber content and a shear-resistant nylon cover for enhanced performance and power transmission. Available in 8M and 14M pitches, this all-purpose belt offers interchangeability with other deep-profile systems, exceptional resistance to abrasion and flex fatigue, and an increased power load capacity by up to 50%.

Applications include:

  • Appliances
  • Pellet extruders
  • Wood cutters
  • Food mixers
  • Cooling systems
  • Radio-controlled cars
  • Power wheelchairs
  • Flexible packaging machines
  • Carton industry equipment

Megalinear QST (Quiet Self Track)

Megalinear QST (Quiet Self Track)Our helical offset tooth design offers continuous precision tooth engagement and accurate tracking, making it perfect for bi-directional positioning applications and conveying applications where pulley flanges may interfere with the product conveyed.  Megalinear Quiet Self Track offers superior noise control compared to traditional trapezoidal and curvilinear tooth designs and other synchronous products.

Applications include:

  • Linear units
  • Elevators
  • Automatic warehouses
  • Automatic doors
  • Packaging
  • General synchronous conveying

RPP-Steel

RPP SteelThis new generation of open-end timing belts is made from a high-performance EPDM rubber compound, and the innovative production process allows it to withstand abrasion, extreme temperatures, and chemically aggressive environments. Available in 8M and 14M pitches, RPP-Steel is powered by steel cord reinforcement to provide maximum load and resistance and is interchangeable with existing drives and pulleys.

Applications include:

  • Heavy lifting systems
  • Applications requiring limited belt elongation
  • Applications in which polyurethane is limited by environmental factors such as noise and temperature

Belts For Seedling Harvesting

The importance of the right cover material and modified options mean efficient seedling harvesting. Major manufacturers of wood products start with a seedling grown under controlled environmental conditions. When the seedlings achieve a certain size, they are harvested and refrigerated until replanted in large tree farms.

Tree Seedling With Exposed RootsSeedlings grown in meticulous straight rows must be removed from the ground with specialized harvesting equipment without damaging the crop. To eliminate bending or tearing of the seedling, custom made belts are used to extract the seedling.  Two belts, one at ground level the other above it, extract from the ground and gently convey the seedling to a hopper for storage.

The Problem

The belts grip the seedling, so finding the right balance of grip and wear resistance – due to the surrounding direct environment – was a struggle for a leading OEM manufacturing.  Reducing belt replacement costs, lost production time and seedling waste were their goals.

The Solution

After consulting with the technical team at Megadyne Belt Corporation, two belt designs were produced: One to grip and transport softwood seedlings, like Pine, and one to grip and transport hardwood seedlings, like oak and hickory.

Megadyne Belt Corporation suggested the use of Durataq, a newly developed blended rubber to create a cover that was capable of providing the right grip (coefficient of friction) while offering excellent wear resistance.

Furthermore, the technical team at Megadyne Belt Corporations Cumming GA location engineered a profiled cover to better assist in seedling handling.  Today, the OEM uses both a flat cover structure as well as the profiled design dependent on the tree makeup

The Results

Our customer’s tree harvesting projects can now be completed expediently and efficiently without the risk of delay, damaged goods or the need to constantly replace belts.

Your particular application will dictate the right type of cover compounds needed to achieve your applications objective. As illustrated in the case study above, choosing an appropriate compound is key to ensuring belt durability and longevity. Megadyne Belt Corporations orange Durataq™ compound is particularly ideal for applications where grip and wear resistance are important. Because Durataq is molded, a seamless cover is offered.
